Elpida Memory, a leading global supplier of dynamic random access memory, has kicked off production of 25nm DRAM products, and because of this, it can now brag about having and shipping the world’s smallest DDR3 chip, a 2Gb DRAM certified to operate at 1866 MHz powered at 1.35V or 1.5V.
According to Elpida, its 2Gb 25nm memory chip consumes 15% less operating current and 20% less current when on standby than a similar 30nm DRAM. This first 25nm chip will be used for PC and server applications but Elpida is also working on Mobile RAM products that will be manufactured on 25nm technology.
To better address the need for higher densities, Elpida will also be rolling out, before the end of this year, a 4Gb 25nm DRAM.
